This article from last June contains a statement by LDS Authorities on children having the right to be born in to the bonds of marriage between man & wife. It also contains a statement by a leader of a gay support group. His statement, like many others stating that the legalizatioin of gay & lesbian marriages will affect "only civil unions, not religious ones" is simply not true.

Religious unions are feeling the effects. The LDS Church will lose its Tax Exempt status due to its performing exclusively heterosexual marriages. On the contrary, The Catholic Diaces cease to performing marriages in states legalizing gay & lesbian marriage in order to keep its Tax Exempt status. People in such states must be married by state courts rather than their choice of Catholic Pastor.
